“I have no name, I have no name, I am but two days old. What shall I call thee? I happy am, joy is my name. Sweet joy befall thee!”
The poems of William Blake’s Songs of Innocence and Experience pepper the libretto of this children’s opera based on Sven Wernström’s children’s book. In two acts, each of forty minutes, it tells the story of Tricky Micky’s rise from a tiny orphan to a successful advertising tycoon. He gets the girl, the car, and the talented staff – for a while at least – as he causes increasing havoc until his adoring company directors come to grief! There’s a large chorus and many cameo parts, as well as the starring role of Micky. Aimed at non-specialist children of fifteen plus.
