An English Requiem

For chorus, soloists, optional trumpet and organ

“Great Son of God! Immortal love, whom we, who have not seen thy face, by faith alone embrace…Forgive my grief for one removed, for one I found so fair. I trust he lives in thee, and there I find him worthier to be loved.”

Commissioned by Southwark Cathedral for Huw Morgan and the Merbecke Choir, this piece couples an English translation of the Latin Requiem Mass with settings of poetry by George Byron and Alfred Tennyson describing their feelings on losing loved ones. There are ten movements (1. Give them Rest, 2. The Cornelian, 3. Doomsday!,

4. Dear Lord Jesus, 5. Offerings, 6. Lord God of Hosts, 7. God’s Lamb, 8. Save me, O Lord, 9. In Memoriam, and 10. In Paradise) lasting around half-an-hour.
